When establishing initial contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC), it is important to follow a structured sequence of communication. First, the pilot should listen to the frequency to ensure it is clear before transmitting.

The initial transmission should include the following components:

• Aircraft identification
• Type of message being transmitted (i.e., request, report, or information)
• Current position and altitude
• Any relevant requests or intentions
